In a short span of time, Boston Academy, Inc. has developed a growing reputation in providing a wide range of supportive
social services to disadvantaged and diverse disabled populations in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Becoming a nonprofit organization allowed us to expand the level and quality of service we currently provide on an ad-hoc basis primarily through volunteer and in-kind services. As a nonprofit, we are able to link youth and adults with disabilities to essential services and resources while educating the public about the need for a wider safety net. We believe that there is a greater need for programs to serve economically disadvantaged and at-risk populations. We hope to provide recreation, cultural awareness, and mentoring in much the same way other tax-exempt organizations provide services to other at-risk populations.
Our objective is to reach more than 10,000 individuals and their families with information about available services and resources. Among the services that we provide include counseling, education, recreation, health screening, meals, socialization, transportation, and special events. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that the mentally disabled receive support for independent living by bundling resources working in collaboration with community organizations, social service providers, elected officials, private residents, and faith-based organizations. We have been an all-volunteer services organization for the first three years and reached tax-exempt status to receive donations for the small ongoing programs that we provide.
